9/11. The fallout from that was, and still is, felt to this day.
Almost everyone knows where they were the day it happened.
I was working when the announcement happened when the news broke.
In the weeks after, the company I worked for, along with many, many others, started feeling the financial strain.
Within months, they started having to cut back on projects, contracts, and then staff. I was let go in the first wave of redundancies and found out a few months after that, that the entire division I was in got closed down and, the directors (one Japanese, one British) both lost their positions, and the Japanese director moved back to Japan.
The building ended up being sold on and then later demolished.
If that event hadn’t happened, who knows, maybe my career would have taken a very different path. Perhaps I might not have ended up being a furry, kig or cosplayer, but maybe my general health might have been better. Who knows?
